DAY 49--Over the river and through the woods

The day started out chilly and drizzly, again. We rode 10 miles to the end of the Pere Marquette trail in Midland. There we headed into town to find some more warm clothes. We ended up at a sporting goods store in a mall where we each got a Frogg Togg extremely waterPROOF rain suit. Lonna was so excited she was doing the happy dance. Just the thought of being dry while we are riding was great. Naturally, after that the rain let up.
We continued on county roads through rural areas, still quite flat. We are starting to see some fields where the crops have been harvested, including one that we thought was a field of turnips.
At one point we were riding near a ditch, and as we rode by we flushed out 3 blue herons and 2 egrets.
We ended the day in Frankenmuth, a town that prides itself on its Bavarian heritage. They have many old churches and buildings with European style architecture, Bavarian gift shops, and Bavarian restaurants with German and Bavarian flags throughout the town. We set up camp in a drizzle.
For dinner we opted for the new BBQ restaurant near our campground.
