DAY 41--Say Cheese

We had a sunny and warm day. Today we were joined by our biking buddy Ann Taurick, who will be riding the Wisconsin portion with us. Her husband Gary also joined us for the first part of the day, then returned to drive to tonight's campsite.
We were on bike paths all the way from the Twin Cities to the state line at Stillwater. Minnesota gets a gold star for bike paths! We rode across the Mississippi River for the last time on this trip. We noticed dozens of people out on their bikes for a morning ride, and finally realized there was a biking event going on in St. Paul when we rode right through the starting area.
Along the way we saw 4 bald eagles soaring around on the thermals, their white heads and white tail feathers flashing in the sun.
In Stillwater we stopped for some ice cream, then headed across the St. Croix River into Wisconsin, our 7th state.
There was no "Welcome to Wisconsin" sign. Instead we were greeted with a short but very steep climb up and over the bluff. Then we headed into some hill country--real hills, not the little rollers we had gotten accustomed to. Rode through lots of scenic farmland. Camped at the Glen Hills county park, which was on a lake. We went for a stroll through the woods along the lake just before sunset.

Lonna assured us that these are indeed Wisconsin cows.

  1. Lonna, remind me to show you some belted cows near Columbus...called Dutch Belts, smaller than Holsteins, very sweet.
