This was one of those perfect biking days--sunny with a few clouds, a mild wind, and a paved rail trail the entire way. And to top it off, about 3 miles down the road we hit 2000 miles!!!!
We have noticed that in North Dakota when there were few towns along the route, there was really nowhere to stop for food and water. Here, even if there are no towns there are plenty of places to stop--fishing resorts, convenience stores, and such. The rail trails tend to pass through small communities, so we had plenty to see. Along the trail we saw several deer and black squirrels. We stopped at the library in Walker and picked up a couple of books from their free book room, because our bike bags just don't weigh enough. Also stopped in Hackensack, where they have a large (rather ugly) statue of Paul Bunyan's sweetheart. Fortunately, there was also an ice cream parlor there, one that had been around since the 1940s and still had the same decor.
Minnesota certainly lives up to its name for being the land of lakes. It seems like every time we round a corner there is another lake. And every little convenience store we stopped at sold live bait.
Our campsite was right near Pine Mountain Lake.
