DAY 43--Rural Riding

Wisconsin is HILLY! We haven't seen hills like this for several weeks.
The landscape is quite pretty--very lush green, lots of trees, many rivers and creeks (running very high), and farm fields. Today we had a mix of sun and clouds, warming up quite a bit in the afternoon.
We rode through a lot of Mennonite and Amish country. We talked for a while with a young Mennonite couple on a recumbent tandem bike. We stopped for lunch in Dorchester, then hit some BIG hills coming into Wausau. Actually, the hills are nice in that they provide some opportunity to coast.
Near Poniatowski is a geographical marker, marking the spot that is halfway between the Prime Meridian and the international date line, and halfway between the North  Pole and the equator.
Tonight we have a home stay with a curling friend of Steve's. We walked a mile to Subway for dinner, then on the walk back stopped by a local winery and had a private sampling. Of course we bought a bottle of wine (thanks again, Jean!).

We're still not sure what exactly Poniatowski is. It seemed to be mostly a cemetery.
