North Dakota is still cloudy and misty, but no rain today made for
another great riding day! After a nice climb out of the river valley, we
were back on the straight, flat road we had been on yesterday. It looks
like it could go on forever. The scenery is changing to have a lot more
trees, and the farmhouses are closer together. The fields now are
primarily corn and soybeans--very familiar to those of us who grew up in
the Midwest.
Along the way we passed a sunflower processing plant, and a herd of banded cows (NOT like Wisconsin cows, Lonna says).
There were also dozens of very little toads hopping around on the side of the road and sometimes onto the road.
We
stopped at the library in Kindred. The librarian was very excited to
learn that their town is on a national biking route. She gave us two
free books from their book sale room.
The last 10 miles into
Fargo were on a bike trail. The ride north through town was very
pleasant--very bike-friendly. We ended up right downtown at a great bike
shop in an old train depot. We picked up some extremely bright red
taillights, to make us more visible to vehicles during the day.
We
stayed with the nephew of our friend Jean (who was planning to do the
ride with us before she was injured in a cycling accident). He and
his fiance made us a fabulous zucchini lasagna with homemade herb bread! Gotta love the home stays!
