DAY 42--FORWARD! *

Had a pretty hilly ride most of the day. We started out with sunshine, then overcast skies, then a little light rain off and on. In creating our own route from a state biking map that supposedly shows traffic patterns and road conditions, we ended up on a road with no shoulders and very heavy truck traffic. We stopped at a town hall along the way where the town clerk was doing paperwork, which she was happy to put down so she could talk with us. She explained that a sand mining operation had opened up, and the trucks run that road all day. She helped us determine an alternate route, which included a bike path that took us across the Chipewa River.
During the day we saw deer, wild turkeys, and another bald eagle.
We camped at the town of Stanley in a lovely town campground by a lake. The sun came out in the evening.
*For those who may not know, the state motto of Wisconsin is "Forward".
