Random thoughts

*From our 2012 ride along the Mississippi, we decided that 65 miles a day is very reasonable, taking into consideration terrain, weather, and local attractions. This has proven to be a good basis for our current trip.
*Lonna had been concerned that with her heavier recumbent bike she would be lagging far behind on the uphills. She seems to have found her climbing legs with no trouble!
*Lonna has found, on the advice of her nephew (my son) Jason, who is a personal trainer extraordinaire, that staying well hydrated has prevented any issues with altitude.

*We can deal with cold, rain, wind, and hills, but the heat just sucks the life right out of us.
*Cycling long distances is a great excuse to eat homemade pie!
*When asked why we do this, the typical first response is that it is a great way to see the country from a different perspective. However, it is also definitely a personal challenge--something that we believe we are capable of, but we will never know for sure until we actually do it. There is a great feeling of accomplishment that goes along with it.
