DAY 21--Hello Hysham

Had to ride with a lot of traffic to get out of Billings and beyond. Eventually it settled down, and we had a nice flat road for many miles. Spent most of the day riding through Montana farmland, not far from the river and often near the railroad. Lots of sugar beet fields. Not many places to stop along the way, although we did find a little cafe where we got some ice cream. :) We spotted some longhorn cattle--definitely not Wisconsin cattle, as Lonna noted. The final road into Hysham was supposedly a state highway, but apparently only recently was even paved--very rough and VERY remote. Had to shoo some cows off the road. Made it the 81 miles to Hysham, to be greeted by our cousin Julia and her husband Steve, and our Aunt Shirley. Always good to stay with family, especially when they cook up spaghetti, and bake pie and cinnamon rolls for us!

One of the shady rest spots we found. There were a startlingly large number of Unknown markers.
